PRODUCTION NOTE: NEAR MISS on OUTDOOR SHOOT of LWT

The Long Wooden Tobogganist was shot on December 30th of 2007, 15 km south of Winnipeg, Canada near the town of LaSalle.

Despite the simplicity of shooting outdoors and not recording location sound... there was a tremendous gamble with the weather. Manitoba winters in late December can range from just below freezing to -35 Celsius.Thankfully the day was a milder -12 Celsius with no wind and completely overcast.

Two vehicles were kept running constantly to keep crew and talent warm. The makeup was done in the back of a mini van. Mixing the fake blood on location was most challenging.

One of the problems encountered were snowmobilers passing by on the river while shooting. Most of them were more curious than anything. During the love scene in the middle of the ice however, one lone snowmobiler came down the river at an incredibly high speed and was completely surprised by the crews presence. The snowmobile began to skid and headed straight for Director Andrew Wall, Director of Photography Ryan McKenna and the 16mm film camera and tripod.

As the out of control snowmobile skidded up to the location, crew and talent scrambled for the river bank. It should be noted the Director stayed with the camera on the ice. The snowmobiler managed to cut directly though the location without hitting anyone or anything. He flashed the peace sign as he did so.

Shooting resumed. Beer and pizza followed.
